Engage – Types of energy
There are many different types of energy! Here are a few examples:
- Electrical energy: This is the energy that helps us turn on the lights, use our computers, and charge our phones. It’s created by moving electrons through a wire, and we get it from things like batteries, power plants, and solar panels.
- Thermal energy: This is the energy that comes from heat. It can come from things like the sun, a fire, or even your body. We use thermal energy to warm up our homes and cook food.
- Mechanical energy: This is the energy that helps things move. It can come from things like muscles, springs, and even wind. We use mechanical energy to ride bikes, jump on trampolines, and even turn a crank to open a window.
- Chemical energy: This is the energy that’s stored inside things like food, fuel, and batteries. We use chemical energy to power our cars, heat our homes, and even make things like plastic.
- Sound energy: This is the energy that helps things make noise. It can come from things like music, voices, and even thunder. We use sound energy to communicate with each other and enjoy music.
- Light energy: This is the energy that helps things shine and glow. It comes from the sun and other light sources, and we use it to see things and enjoy beautiful sunsets.
- Solar energy: This is the energy that comes from the sun. We use it to power things like solar panels and even satellites in space!
- Wind energy: This is the energy that comes from the wind. We use it to turn windmills and generate electricity.
- Water energy: This is the energy that comes from moving water, like waves and currents in the ocean. We use it to generate electricity and even power boats.
