Explain – Principle behind the Mini Missile Launcher.
How many of you believe that you live in an ocean? Yes! We are in a deep ocean of air! Tons and tons of air is above and around us – just like the water around the fish. Similar to water air also exerts pressure or push /pull on other objects.
In the missile launcher, PVC pipe gives it a structure and the vacuum pump actually acts as a real launcher. When the launcher is pressed, the air stored in the vacuum pump moves very fast and hits the missile placed at the other end. Since the launcher is sealed from the top, the air cannot escape and shoots the missile out because of the high pressure inside. The launcher comes down after flying a distance due to the gravitational force exerted on it.
Points to note: Our Mini missile won’t fly in the air if the following criteria are not fulfilled:
-There should not be air leakage from any part of the launcher.
-The launcher should be sealed at the front so that air doesn’t escape.
-Little weight in the front makes the missile fly more distance.
