3.2 Engage : Know your Body
What is Input for the body?
Input is food, air, and water which we take inside our body – we either breathe, chew something or smell something. So all the input goes through the nose, mouth, and skin. Yes, skin too !! Like when we apply cream, lotion, or any ointment that will reach underneath our layer of skin!
What is Output for the body?
Output is excretion, elimination, energy loss, or respiration (Carbon dioxide) and any product formed in the body through biological reactions. For example, Nitrogenous wastes excreted in urine include urea, creatinine, ammonia, and uric acid. Ions such as sodium, potassium, hydrogen, and calcium are also excreted.
You must have heard about this statement that “Food gives us energy ” – What’s more ?? You think !!
What happens when you eat food, depends on what you are eating. For example, if you eat ice cream, you will get only energy, nothing else! What does your body need, just energy ??? Don’t you want growth, don’t you want to protect your body, sometimes you get wounds… How will it repair itself??
So, it’s not just energy, it protects you, helps in growth, repair and digestion. It also keeps you warm and helps in building the body.
Mirabai Chanu, the silver medalist in Weight lifting (2021 Olympics), didn’t eat pizza or any junk food for 4 years just to maintain her weight (49 kg). Yes !!
Effect of Junk food
Let food be the medicine
Why do we need to take medicine when we have nutritious food. “CURE THE DISEASE WITH NUTRITION” !!!
All the medicines are just chemicals, lets take the example of cough syrup- it contains chemicals like dextromethorphan or pholcodine which you take when you have a cough. It depresses brain function, particularly the parts of the brain that control breathing and heart function.
So what is the need for chemicals? Try ginger or warm water for relief from cough.
